the JSI team has considerable expertise in applying NLP to detecting and tracking cognitive impairment, in NLP for less-resourced languages, and cross-lingual NLP.
Conditions like Alzheimer’s disease cause cognitive impairments that are associated with characteristic effects on patients’ speech. This project will investigate computational methods for detecting these automatically, potentially leading to future assistive diagnosis and monitoring technology. It will particularly focus on developing detection methods that transfer well across languages, while giving interpretable output that could be helpful to clinicians.
